Intelligent Air Conditioning
In hotels and apartments, there are many cases where the guest/tenants are only in the space for 40% of the time. This presents an opportunity for intelligent air conditioning and heating to manage the energy.
When used in hotel/resorts, guests are often only in the rooms during the night. The intelligent space management system is based on an infrared sensor that can determine that a human is in the room – at which time the thermostat is returned to human control and the set point selected. If the door opens and the infrared sensor does not detect a human after 10 minutes, the set point is adjusted to minimize energy (e.g. change set point to 27C during the cooling season or 15C during the heating season). When the door reopens and a human is detected, the heating/cooling system turns on and the space returns to comfort levels very quickly.
In regions where the electricity rates are high and the need of air conditioning is high, the savings using this technology is significant.
